2007 Directors’ Report

In 2007 we have saved some marriages, provided emotional support for people in crisis, and helped people adjust to major events such as job loss, a mate having an affair, a divorce, or the loss of a loved one through death. On some occasions we have helped people with severe emotional problems continue to function and/or find additional help. In addition, we have continued our Christian witness by stressing ministry through our scholarship program, not turning people in crisis away for financial reasons.

In 2007 our gross receipts were less due to the death of a person who believed in counseling and provided a fund through his church to underwrite a great deal of our scholarship program. We benefited nearly $4,000 a year by working with his church to make scholarships available to people in financial need.

In 2007 we will need to pay attention and make adjustments.  The Director will most likely be unable to draw his full budgeted salary in order to balance the budget, unless some additional people help provide scholarships.  While we always watch expenses, the expenses in 2007 actually declined 20.2% from 2006 (decreased $4,689.81)

Changes will be made to the program in 2008 in order to adjust to changing conditions. Our emphasis in the past two years on marriage counseling has seen more people drive in from out of town.  However, we need to return to our basic program of spiritual and personal growth in order to reach out to a broader clientele. Also, we need to promote our study skills program again. The broader emphasis on family life will expand our focus beyond marriage counseling.  Parenting skills, budgeting, and time management are also timely topics.

Our current radio spots will provide an avenue for promoting specific aspects of our broader program as well as promoting our web site.  Additional timely articles placed on the web site and promoted through the radio spots should help enlist people.  A monthly email to our mailing list should keep people informed and involved.  Keeping the scholarship program before people should help us prayerfully enlist additional contributors.

My vision for Becoming is to offer a personal, realistic, affordable option for spiritual growth for people undergoing a crisis.  By offering the in-depth ministry of Becoming, we supplement thchurches and other Christians in our area and around the world.
